Professional modeling caught the attention of Emma Sutherland @emma_sutherland_official in 2015 and since then, she has featured in a number of both international and local photo shoots and campaigns. Native to the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand, Emma is now based in Australia where she mixes life with her career. In this exclusive Teenlionare interview, she unveils herself to her fans.
Let us all welcome Emma Sutherland to Teenlionaire. She is a beautiful 14-year-old model who is known for her good looks and charisma when in front of the camera… Hailing from New Zealand and based in Australia, Emma has been involved with the likes of Illinois photographer Robert Beczarski and Richard & Elsa Dillon. Apart from photographers, she has appeared in projects for both international and local companies and clothing brands… Emma, how did professional modeling catch your attention?
Well about 4 years ago mum organised a photo shoot with one of her friends who is a dance photographer and after seeing the final photos, Lisa suggested I should get into modelling, we approached a couple of agencies at first but weren’t very happy with them. Then we were at a day spa and one of the staff said I should get into modelling and gave mum the contact details for Reel Management.
What have you learned about yourself since you became a model?
Before I started modelling I was very shy and not confident around new people, I kind of kept to myself a lot. But doing the modelling workshops and working with lots of different photographers and other models has given me a lot more confidence and now I feel like I can happily talk and mingle with people I don’t know or speak confidently in front of large groups of people.
Interesting… Who are your favorite celebrities in the modeling industry, and why?
Hmmmm, I would have to say that my favourite models right now are the Hadid sisters, Gigi and Bella. They are not only beautiful on the outside but they have a beautiful outlook on life. Their family and social values are very much aligned to how I have been raised, family is so important to us.
Hmm… And when you’re not modeling, what are five activities you enjoy doing?
Only 5 activities ….. well I’d have to say reading, singing, dancing (badly hahaha), listening to music and hanging out with my friends at the mall or just at home.
On that note, what are the best books you’ve read in recent years?
I recently read Love Simon, I’d have to say that is one of my all time favourite books, but the top of the list would have to be the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard, and in fact I got to meet Victoria only a couple of months ago when she came to the Gold Coast for Supanova 2018. She was so inspiring to listen to and very friendly.
Since you’re a huge fan of The Flash, what are your top three favorite episodes and why?
Oh The Flash! I love The Flash!! It’s so hard to pick only 3 episodes but here goes: WestAllen for Life 301 – when Barry and Iris finally get together and go out on their first date. I had been wanting this to happen for so long! Duet – where Grant Gustin (Flash), Melissa Benoist (Super Girl) and Darren Criss team up again (after their Glee days) for a musical episode – I couldn’t help but sing along, it was a mini Glee reunion after all. And finally the most recent crossover with The Flash and Arrow where WestAllen (Barry and Iris) and Olicity (Oliver and Felicity) got married – finally!
I also learned you’re a huge fan of the Marvel universe. Well, I love Marvel myself… Help me with something: rank Black Panther, Deadpool 2, and Avengers: Infinity War—and give reasons for your ranking…
Wow that’s a tough one, but I’ll give it a shot: Black Panther – I loved this movie, the whole concept of this country being hidden away from the world, but they also have strong female characters such as Shuri and Nakia, then Deadpool 2 – I haven’t actually seen this movie but I have heard it is insanely hilarious. And really the only reason I ranked it above Infinity War is because that movie just broke my heart – how could they kill off all my favourite characters like that!
Lastly, a beauty tip from Emma Sutherland…?
Have a great skin care routine. I use an organic, natural system and clean every day along with Vitamin A and E and Vitamin B and C followed by a really good moisturiser. Once a week I use a mask. But just as important is a good self-care routine! Be happy, if you’re happy on the inside it reflects on the outside. Binge watch those tv shows on Netflix but also get out and enjoy your time with friends and family – a good dose of Vitamin Fun is good for the soul and the skin!!
